De Klaproos – Merkem
We, Jacques and Marleen, welcome you in our rural B&B! If you're looking for a Bed and Breakfast in West-Flanders, the Poppy (de klaproos) is the excellent place for a peaceful and cosy weekend in the countryside. Our hospitable home is situated in Merkem, located between Ypres and Diksmuide.
The beautiful garden and the animals in the field make your stay in our B&B more attractive.
The B&B is situated in the centre of nature, culture, history and lots of culinary surprising possibilities. The serene sea is nearby and following cities lare situated within a 30 km-circle: Ypres, Diksmuide, Poperinge, Veurne, Roeselare. Perfect for convivial, instructive cycling tours. The numerous junction point routes help you to reach safely your destination. Furthermore, the walk routes are appropriate to examine the history of the Great War.
We will do our best to let you feel home on our B&B. Your stay in our home will be absolutely unforgettable!

Room in cottage style with double bed on the first floor. In this room, a flatscreen, a stereo and wireless internet are at your disposal.
The bathroom with toilet is equipped with towels, soap, shampoo, linens and a hair- drier.
The stay can be extended with an extra room for 2 persons of the family. (There is 1 bathroom).
On the first floor of our home, you can relax in the cosy sitting area with refrigerator, where you can enjoy a cooled drink.
Coffee and tea is for free.

In the dining- room on the ground floor, you can enjoy a lavish breakfast with fresh quality products. In favourable weather, the breakfast can be served at one of the terraces. We offer you: different sorts of bread, coffee/ tea, fruit juice, a healthy fruit salad, cheese and fine meat, homemade jam and weet spread, an egg prepared to your satisfaction.

Ons 2de verblijf mocht er eveneens zijn. Ook al liet de lente nog steeds op zich wachten en konden we niet genieten van de mooie tuin. Maar zowel binnen als buiten scheen het zonnetje. Een gastvrij onthaal, paaseitjes en gebak op de kamer, acht pasgeboren puppies, gezelschapsspelletjes in de zithoek, interessante uitstappen i.v.m. Den Grooten Oorlog... Ook onze twee jonge twintigers waren in de wolken en voelden zich onmiddellijk thuis. We komen zeker terug, al was het maar om de uitgeleende patronen voor zijdeschilderen terug te brengen.

Ons verblijf gedurende vijf dagen in de krokusvakantie was over de hele lijn geweldig, ondanks het winterweer. Een warm onthaal bij een drankje in de huiskamer, een rustiek ingerichte slaapkamer met TV en DVD-speler, een verzorgde badkamer, een zithoek met veel toeristische informatie, een uitgebreid ontbijt, verscheidene eetcafés en restaurants binnen een straal van 2km, parking op de oprit... maar vooral twee schatten van eigenaars. Hartelijk, bereidwillig, heel attent, met nu en dan een cullinaire of artistieke verrassing. Voor herhaling vatbaar!

Dit weekendje was als overnachtingsplaats om kerstavond te vieren bij familie in die buurt. We hebben er een nacht meer van gemaakt om eens te ontspannen en van de streek te genieten.
Jacques en Marleen zijn heel gastvrij, voor hen is niks te veel om aan de wensen te voldoen van de gasten. Hun hulpvaardigheid stelden we zeer op prijs. Het uitgebreide ontbijt 's morgens is inderdaad met allerlei verse producten, de kamers zijn netjes en huiselijk. We komen zeker terug als we nog eens in de buurt moeten zijn.

Very good BB; all the staff is really simpathetic. Good facilities, cosy and clean, excellent place to rest. Breakfast is perfect.
